International Star at Northern Saints

Dani Spicer-Escalante, a Year 7 student at John Fawkner College, is currently a member of the Northern Saints U14 side coached by Ange Ciavarella. Dani, who hails from the State of Utah in the United States, has been living with his family in Melbourne since July of 2009. They will return to the United States in July of this year. Whilst in America Dani competes in both soccer and downhill skiing, in Australia he has taken up two national passions: cricket and ‘footy.’ He played for the Haig Amateur Cricket Club U12 team at the Mutton Reserve beginning last spring, and is now playing in the forward pocket position for the Northern Saints U14 team this year. Dani first discovered ‘footy’ in July of 2008 when he visited Australia for the first time with his father, JP. During their one-week stay in Melbourne on that trip they got to see two AFL matches at Etihad Stadium. They then began to follow the AFL on American television and even watched the Grand Final that year in America. It was also on that trip that Dani chose a team to barrack for: the Collingwood Magpies. Even though he knows that many people do not like Collingwood, Dani says “they have a lot of tradition at the club, and I like that.” His favourite player is Leon Davis because he is “fast, accurate, and makes heaps of goals.” Although Dani knows that he will return to America and won’t be able to play in the finals if the U14s make it that far this season, he is very happy to be part of the Northern Saints U14 team. He hopes to hear from his friends on the team that they win the Grand Final this season to take home the flag once again. He considers it “an honour” to play for the ‘Saints’” and is very happy to be accepted by the other boys on the team.

Hi all, I have been given the privilege of being voted Junior President for season 2010.  I look forward to the challenge and as a Junior Committee we have been working hard to make your season in 2010 enjoyable and more informed.  Our main focus is the children and their wellbeing and our aim is to have more parent involvement. I am a full-time working mother blessed with one child.  I am a believer that if we are involved with our children’s activities, whatever they may be, it keeps them interested”

EDFL Rep Weekend

Congratulations to Chanel Seigafo, Luke Silvestro, Frank Bonarrigo and Liam Stacey Bradford who have all played in the respective teams over the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend with one more game still to be played.

Under 14s player Chanel Seigafo has been given the privelage of being Captain in the Rep Squad.  With Rugby being as close to Chanel as our own Ausie Rules, this young man is also making his mark in the Rugby World.  This has been a year of great opportunity to play the games he loves, but we hope he picks the game we love most.

Luke was chosen by NSFC late last year to try out for EDFL representative squad U14/ U15's.  Luke's hard training since November last year has paid off as he has been chosen to play in the Rep. squad.  They played a practice match against Sydenham Hillside football club and won that game and are due to play Round 1&2 games over the Queens birthday weekend and round 3 game the following week.

Frank has been chosen two years in a row.  This is a great achievement and shows Frank's consistency in his peformance week after week, year after year.  "The Doctor" as he is known to his team mates and coach is a valued member  of his team and of our club.  Congratulations Frank, keep up the great work.

Liam has been part of the NS/NC since 2007 .   Liam's favourite position is Ruck Rover.   He has progressed in to a very fine player and loves to run with the ball.  Liam is a natural footballer who can run all day without tiring.  Being picked to represent the Under 12s Squad is his biggest achievement so far with, we are sure, bigger achievements to follow.

Lewis Ciavarella 50 Games

Congratulations Lewis on your 50th Game.  Lewis has been playing our great game since 2008 when he decided at the age of 8 he wanted to go watch his friends play footy and decided to join them.  Lewis' improvement this year is a reflexion of his growing passion for Football.  We wish him luck next year when he moves up to u14s.
